Irving Arts Center’s 21st Annual Art Connection Members’ Show features 135 works of art by 72 members.
Since 2001, each summer the Arts Center has held this non-juried exhibition to feature artwork in a variety of media by members of all ages from throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond.
The 2021 Design/Thematic Challenge, To See and Be Seen: Art & Identity, is inspired by a quote from the great artist, Louise Bourgeois (1911 – 2021), “Art is a way of recognizing oneself.” Members were invited to create work that examines how art expresses, celebrates and shapes identity.
Jennifer Monét Cowley, Artist and Curator at the African American Museum in Dallas served as this year’s awards judge. Ribbons and cash prizes totaling $1800 were awarded to 22 participating members in the Youth, Non-Professional and Professional categories.
Irving resident, and recent graduate from MacArthur High School, Journey Harris received this year’s Best of Show for her painting, Freesia.
