Moving Beyond is the IAC’s first exhibition of any type completely curated and organized by our Teen Ambassadors. The teen volunteer group decided that there is a need across the DFW area to highlight teen artists and give them the opportunity to exhibit their artwork. A virtual format seemed like a great fit for this first endeavor. The Teen Ambassadors decided upon the title and theme of this exhibition, wanting it to inspire and encourage area teen artists with a hopeful theme. They wanted a theme that would put all of the pandemic stress behind them, moving beyond to more positive experiences.
This exhibition is on display indefinitely on this website with a rolling entry, so if you are a teen and would like to participate in this exhibition contact Cindy Perreira

"The world says a lot of things about us. Teens especially struggle with believing things that are untrue about themselves. Sometimes after a long day, washing my face helps me turn away from those things back to what is true and what is actually me. "

"This piece is based off of Bo Burnham’s song All Eyes On Me and his special Inside. It’s about how it’s so easy to drown in fame and get lost in it. The piece is digital art and the man is Bo Burnham himself."

"This piece is a drawing of a Indian Sculpture in charcoal which was then digitally altered with the addition of the red triangle in the middle. This piece brings together modern digital art and a historical form of art from ancient India."

"For many of us 2020 was the year of indoors. Due to the quarantine many people have forgotten the importance of being outdoors. Now that the quarantine is lifted go outside and breath the fresh air."

"Sometimes the best way to move forward is by letting go: letting go of your fears, unrealistic expectations, toxic relationships, unrequited love or anything that is holding you hostage. In my painting titled “Let it go” the little paper boat that a young woman watches to float away represents everything she is relinquishing. The woman’s reflection in the water suggests that she had to look deep inside herself to realize this and the wistfulness in her eyes shows that this is not an easy loss for her, but she knows that this is something she need to let go of in order to move forward with her life. "The anxiety and fear I felt as I moved from 2020 to 2021 are reflected in this artwork. Things returned to normal in 2021, after spending much of 2020 quarantined and attending virtual school. It was difficult for me to return to normal because I had lost my social skills and ability to take a test during class. This artwork, I believe, reflects my fear of returning to my usual life and the ability to have a high school experience like any other normal teenager."

"The drawing that I have presented today symbolizes the loved ones we lost while fighting this virus. It shows us that we, as a community, have more power than an individual alone, to help stop the virus. Instead of resorting to despair and despondency in these difficult times, we should have hope and strength for the future, in order to move forward and help others so they don't face the same difficult path. The birds also symbolize a new beginning. As birds teach their offspring to fly, we learn from our past mistakes and can use this virus to teach others that we should always have endurance and perseverance to overcome any obstacles. When we value each and every individual and help them, thats when we make a connection and help the world move on."
