Robert Batson is a local artist and retired architect who has had a long fascination with the landscape of northern New Mexico.
New Works: 2019 - 2021 on exhibit at the Irving Arts Center features over 30 works on paper. Along with a number of watercolors, the focus of the exhibition is a new series of mixed media collages in which the artist uses assorted papers - cut, torn and crumpled -- and chalk pastels to depict landscapes in varying degrees of representation and abstraction. With this recent work, Batson continues his six-decade long exploration of light, color and texture inspired by the natural beauty of the Southwest.
